    The military provides two options for the use of your Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH). The first option is to live on post. Your second option is to use your BAH to rent or buy a house off post.

    • The Housing Services Office (HSO) (912) 767-4278. Contact the HSO as soon as you know you are moving. You will be provided with the latest information on local housing as well as referral services and relocation assistance. They offer counseling and guidance before entering into a lease agreement and help resolve tenant-landlord disputes.

    • Single Soldiers with a pay grade of E1-E5 should contact the Marne Reception Center (MRC) at (912) 767-1743.

    • Fort Stewart on-post housing is privatized and managed by Balfour Beatty Communities (912) 408-2480, which offers 11 neighborhoods with various style homes based on pay grade and family size. Home amenities may include: carport, deck, fenced backyard and washer/dryer hookups. Some of the community features are sport courts, splash and dog parks, playgrounds, tot lots and much more.

    Hinesville is a small city of 33,400 people directly south of Fort Stewart. The much smaller towns of Flemington, Allenhurst, Walthourville, Midway, Fleming, and Ludowici are all within a 30 minute commute of post and offer additional, more rural places to live. Savannah is the closest major city to Hinesville; this coastal area is about 50 minutes north of the fort and offers a variety of things to do and see. It is the fifth largest city in Georgia and remains the important seaport it has been since the American Revolution era. Visitors to the state's oldest city will find plenty of history and southern hospitality. Other cities nearby are Richmond Hill, Riceboro, Jesup, and Glennville.

    Fort Stewart cover over 280,000 acres and is one of the largest military installations in the Eastern United States. Fort Stewart is a mobilization station and as well as a site for the annual two-week training for National Guard soldiers. The acreage is used as tank and small arms ranges and can operate nearly year-round thanks to mild weather. Fort Stewart is located near Hinesville, Georgia.
